The wisdom of the ancients - the gift

"If you correct your mind, the rest of your life will fall into place." ~Lao Tzu

A few days ago, a cd arrived in the post. My sister had sent me an audio copy of Eckhart Tolle's book 'The Power of Now'. I didn't know it at the time, but it was a book that my brother Mark embraced in the last months of his life, and she wanted us to listen to it, in order to understand him better.

A couple of days ago, I slipped it into my Mac while I was working, really intending just to skip through a few chapters to quickly get a feel for what it was like. But I ended up playing it in the background for hours instead. I only had my mind half on it in places, but I heard much of what was said, and it reminded me of the spiritual wisdom I'd heard so many times before, from one of the people I have looked up to most in this world for many years - Dr Wayne Dyer. I've known about it for years, but for some reason have never felt inclined to read it. I guess it's come along at this time because it was meant to.

I will end up listening fully to all seven and a half or so hours of it. Partially in an attempt to understand Mark far better than I clearly did. And partially for myself.

I find something incredibly comforting in knowing that there are those who have come before me - who dedicate their lives to imparting this kind of ancient wisdom, for the betterment of those who are willing students. That any time my life is drifting off course, I can always sit quietly for a while, pop in a cd, and listen to their words. It is a wonderful way to re-ground and re-center yourself. I've been there a lot in recent months - off course. Perhaps that's a part of Mark's gift to us - the introduction to 'The Power of Now', for which I am truly grateful.
